Flip cup is a relay, so teams should have equal numbers - even it up before you seed. For the full rules, table setup and how to run a clean flip, see our Flip Cup guide.

How to use this printable

  • Print the grid that matches your team count (8 or 16). If you have an odd number, give the top team a first-round bye into round two.
  • Make sure both teams in every heat have the same number of players so the relay is fair.
  • Write one team per slot, then advance the winner of each heat onto the connecting line in the next round.
  • Agree the format first - a single heat per match keeps 16 teams moving fast; best-of-three works well for the final.

FAQ

How do you run a flip cup tournament?
Place every team in a starting slot on the bracket, then run each match as a standard flip cup relay. The winning team advances and the loser is out. Keep going round by round until two teams meet in the final heat, and the winner is your champion.
How many players per team for flip cup?
Any number works as long as both teams in a heat are equal - 4 to 6 per side is typical. If teams are uneven, have one player on the short team go twice, or trim the larger team for that heat.
What if we do not have a power-of-two number of teams?
Use the next size up and give byes. With 10 teams, for example, print the 16-team grid, place your 10 teams, and let the extra slots act as automatic first-round wins (byes) for the teams across from them.
